Kappa Alpha Theta at NC State
Across the nation, Kappa Alpha Theta members are giving up their day to help others and Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) programs.
The Friends of Wake County Guardian ad Litem Program is so happy the NC State Thetas picked us as their nonprofit. Today's work included creating a snowy wonderland for children. We are grateful for our friends at Snow my Yard. Dave and his staff from Greater Raleigh Refrigeration helped us with our FUNdraising booth at Lazy Daze and offered to help children who are in the GAL program have a little fun test-driving their new slides and sleds.
First came the hard work of breaking up the ice and putting into a machine that works somewhat like a giant snow cone machine. Once the slide and play area was ready, we needed volunteers to help test the slide. It wasn't long before everyone needed to be sure the slide was safe for the children coming later in the day.
My favorite moments included when Frosty came out to play and went down the slide with some of the volunteers who gathered.
This afternoon, Snow my Yard is hosting a benefit for children from area groups who don't often get to play in the snow. Thetas will be volunteering their time for that effort too.
Across town, Thetas are helping with the Octoberfest nOg Run that gives grants to several area nonprofits including the Friends of Wake County Guardian ad Litem Program .
This evening, is our first annual Fashion Show benefit for foster and impoverished children. Our NC State Thetas are helping with that event too and some will be stars on the runway. Stay tuned for pictures from that event later this weekend.
Full day of activities for our hard working volunteers and I am so appreciative to have more than 100 Thetas working with us!
