One of the imperative unmet needs for the children in the Friends of Wake GAL program is educational. Children who have been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect, typically have to move to new schools. This, in addition to other traumas they have suffered, can negatively impact their education; these children often fall behind their peers academically. The Friends would like to establish a needs based one on one tutoring program for needy children in Wake County to help them catch up to their peers and ensure academic success.
